Mike Kreines

Dr. Mike Kreines

Dr. Michael D. Kreines graduated from the University of Cincinnati School of Medicine and completed his Residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Minnesota. His Gastroenterology Fellowship began at the University of California at San Diego and was completed at the University of Chicago, where he was the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Fellow and then attending physician. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and in Gastroenterology and is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and of the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG).

Dr. Kreines recently served two terms as Governor for the Southern Ohio Region for the ACG. Dr. Kreines is the Chief of the section of Gastroenterology at Christ Hospital and volunteers as an Associate Professor at the University of Cincinnati. In past years he spent a considerable amount of time spearheading the formation of the Greater Cincinnati Chapter of the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA). He has served this Chapter as Chairman of the Medical Advisory Board and currently sits on the Board of Trustees.

Dr. Kreines is very active with the Internal Medicine Resident teaching program at the Christ Hospital. He is also active teaching students from the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, as well as precepting premedical students from Miami University. Dr. Kreines has considerable expertise in treating patients with inflammatory bowel disease. In 1999, he received a Distinguished Leadership Award from the CCFA. Dr. Kreines also currently serves as the Medical Advisor for the Ohio Society for Gastrointestinal Nurses and Associates.

Mike Safdi

Dr. Mike Safdi

Dr. Michael A. Safdi performed his undergraduate studies at Johns Hopkins University, where he was elected to the premedical honor society. He graduated from the University of Cincinnati Medical School, where he was elected to AOA Medical Honor Society in his third year. Dr. Safdi completed both his Residency in Internal Medicine and his Gastroenterology Fellowship at the University of California at San Diego and he spent ten months at Scripps Clinic & Research Foundation for further clinical training. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and in Gastroenterology and is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and of the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG).

Dr. Safdi currently serves as a Surveyor for the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) and has served two terms on the Board of Trustees of the ACG. He has also served the ACG as a five-term Governor for the Southern Ohio Region and as a Regional Counselor and was for five years the Gastroenterology Representative for the ACG and the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy on the Medicare Carrier Advisory Committee for the State of Ohio. Since retiring from the Board he has assumed the ACG representative role on the SAGSA (dealing with socioeconomic affairs) with the American College of Physicians. Dr. Safdi also is now chairing the National Gastroenterology CAC meeting annually.

In addition, Dr. Safdi has served Jewish Hospital as its Director of Medical Education for Gastroenterology for the Residency program and has served on its Executive Committee. He has served for a number of years on Choice Care/Humana's and Jewish Hospital's Pharmacy & Therapeutics (P&T) Committee; he also served United Healthcare on its P&T Committee and as a Regional Gastroenterology Consultant. He serves on the Provider Assessment Committee for Humana currently. Dr. Safdi also serves as a consultant to a number of pharmaceutical companies including P&G, J&J (Centocor and Ethicon), and Solvay. He is on the speaker bureau of these and many more companies.

In 1996, Dr. Safdi received a Distinguished Leadership Award from the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America.

Dr. Safdi has a special interest in clinical research with respect to peptic ulcer disease, GERD, inflammatory bowel disease, colon cancer, and colon polyps. He was one of the first private practitioners in the USA to do clinical pharmaceutical research in a totally private practice setting, and has published many articles on inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux disease, and irritable bowel syndrome.

He lectures nationally on IBD therapy, reflux disease, ulcers and practice economics. A recent interest has involved being the first gastroenterologist we know of to learn to interpret virtual colonoscopy (CT colography).

Alan Safdi

Dr. Alan Safdi

Dr. Alan V. Safdi performed his undergraduate studies at Northwestern University, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He graduated from the University of Cincinnati Medical School, where he was elected to AOA Medical Honor Society in his third year. He completed his Residency in Internal Medicine at the University of California at San Diego and his Gastroenterology Fellowship at the University of Cincinnati.

Dr. Alan Safdi is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and in Gastroenterology and is a Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology. He has served Deaconess Hospital on its Executive Committee and currently acts as its Director of Gastroenterology. He has served as the President, Treasurer and Secretary for the Southwest Ohio Digestive Disease Society.

Dr. Alan Safdi along with Dr. Michael Safdi was instrumental in starting the Consultants For Clinical Research in Cincinnati. He has been involved in numerous publications and abstracts that have resulted in a number of articles being published in peer-reviewed journals. His group has had articles published in the American Journal of Medicine, the American Journal of Gastroenterology, the Annals of Internal Medicine, and a variety of other prominent medical journals.

Dr. Safdi has been a national speaker and has lectured at the National Digestive Disease Week and American College of Gastroenterology. Currently, Dr. Alan Safdi is the chairman of the Cincinnati chapter of the medical advisory committee of the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America.

Dr. Safdi's research interests are not only in inflammatory bowel disease including Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn's Disease, but also in regards to Peptic Ulcer, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Hypertension, Diabetes, Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease as well as Colon Cancer and Colon Polyps. He is currently the principal investigator on a variety of studies.

Mark Jonas

Dr. Mark Jonas

Dr. Mark E. Jonas graduated with honors from the State University of New York Health Science Center at Brooklyn College of Medicine and completed his Residency in the prestigious Internal Medicine Department at the Montefiore Medical Center of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. His Gastroenterology Fellowship was performed at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey - New Jersey Medical School.

Dr. Jonas completed an additional year of Fellowship in Hepatology and Liver Transplantation at the extremely busy Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and in Gastroenterology and is UNOS approved for Transplant Hepatology.

Dr. Jonas currently serves Jewish Hospital with Dr. Michael Safdi as its Co-Director of Medical Education for Gastroenterology for the Residency program. Prior to moving to Cincinnati, Dr. Jonas was on the faculty at the University of Arizona College of Medicine as an Assistant Professor in both Medicine and Surgery and he managed all of the hepatic problems in the only liver transplant program for the state of Arizona.

Ravi Ravinuthala

Dr. Ravi Ravinuthala

Dr. Ravi Ravinuthala graduated from Rangaraya Medical College in India and completed postgraduate medical training at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh, India. He further trained in England and was elected a Member of Royal College of Physicians of United Kingdom (M.R.C.P.). He then did his liver transplant training at the prestigious St. James University Hospital in Leeds, England.

In the United States, Dr. Ravinuthala completed Internal Medicine Residency and Gastroenterology Fellowship at Henry Ford Hospital, Detroit, Michigan. He fulfilled a Transplant Hepatology Fellowship at the Henry Ford Transplant Institute and approved by United Network of Organ Sharing (UNOS) as a Transplant Hepatologist. He and Dr. Jonas from our practice are the only private practice gastroenterologists board certified in Transplant Hepatology in the Greater Cincinnati area.

James Fry

Mr. James Fry

Mr. James Fry received his Physician Assistant training while serving in the US Air Force with his Bachelor Degree awarded by the University of Oklahoma. He obtained his Master's Degree from Anderson-Broaddus College. Jim is Board Certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
